I have started working on the next build, the North American P-51. the variant being a very early model (pre-P-51A) the P-51 (USAAF) also F-6A (F is photographic not fighter in 1940), Mustang Mk IA (British) and NA-91 (North American Aviation). Allison powered and armed with four 20mm Cannons.

I am going to try and make the map semi-compatible with the stock Mustangs color schemes with a little touch up. but no promises. the razor back is the main hold up

not sure yet. most if not all early mustangs were painted in olive drab, or camo (brown on brown or brown on green) and not bare metal w/"highlights" like the bald eagle scheme.
This is true of the early Allison Mustangs as they were used most in the MTO and some later in the PTO. The Bare metal came into being when the P-51 B's and C's were introduced as the great air battles were ramping up over Europe. Pics are "A" models.

The Dive Bombing Version of the Allison Mustangs were used in the ETO, the North African-Med campaign as the A-36 Mustang

Legoman ... I'm excited about you doing the P-51, one of my favorite WWII. I have a request (wish).
Could you make the inner doors of the main gear operated separate from the main gear .
As you are most likely aware, with the engine not running, the inner doors go down due to the loss of hydraulic pressure. Since I make variants for my hangar with engine start/stop, I would love to have the capability to replicate this feature.
Very much looking forward for your production !

Sure. You may need to remind me if I forget. I have the memory of a gold fish sometimes other times closer to an elephant. If the hydraulics did not leak down the gear doors should not drop.

I have some idea for power plant.

  • A MVVS 58 LC with a belt drive.
  • An electric power plant.
  • A MVVS 116 LC with a direct drive. Although I need to make sure it will fit.
  • A moki 50 cc although it would be fifth scale not quarter and need some cooling holes added.
I have an no turbo Allison engine sound that I could use or the sound for the appropriate engine choice

You are correct concerning leaking. I have read there was also a "T" handle that could be actuated to release the pressure thus dropping both the flaps and inner doors. IMO ... Looks neat with the inner doors down.

Thanks, and I'll try to remind you ... as my gold fish memory allows !

That would be cool, or assign an engine start sequence to a channel, when the plane spaws in, it is not running, and the wheel doors are open, flip the switch and the engine starts thus creating hydraulic pressure closing the wheel doors.

Sounds very complicated, but I like the idea!!(y)(y)

Yes sir, that is my intended goal. I have other aircraft using that type of function opening cowling vents.
Have been wanting to apply this to the P-51, however most if not all have the inner door sequence tied to the main gear up/down operation. This would be a great opportunity to have the function on one of Legoman's great models.
