The Seversky P-35, in Swedish Export colors.

Alexander Seversky was an interesting cat…in addition to US Army sales, and he was seeking business from all over for his nifty little fighter…he slipped one of the Army's planes to a buddy to race for the Bendix Trophy, and even managed to sell 20 of them to the Japanese just before the war…..

But it was while he was in Sweden overseeing the delivery of these planes, that the bottom dropped out…

Bad publicity (and some serious flak from the State Department!) over the sale to Japan caused the Board of Directors at Seversky Aircraft to fire HIM, the very founder of the company!

So Seversky Aircraft became The Republic Aircraft Corporation.... and the famous P-47 they made bears a striking “family resemblance” to this cute little P-35.

All credit for the EA to BRENTG.
