Rutan Model 202 Boomerang (built in 1996).

The Model 202 Boomerang is an aircraft designed by Burt Rutan, and built by his company Scaled Composites. The purpose was to build a multi-engine airplane that does not become dangerously difficult to control in the event of a failure of a single engine. The result is an aircraft with an asymmetrical design. The Boomerang is powered by two engines, with the right engine producing 10 hp more power than the left one.

Thanks to Doug Kaye (DHK79) for the model.

Wingspan is 5.2 feet and weight is 4.75 pounds.

Various modifications for good RF 7.5 flight performance.

Basic flight controls including rudder, ailerons, retracts, and brakes. No landing flaps.

Fly with the channel 5 rate switch in the “High” position.

Retracts are on channel 7. The brakes are on full time at a mild 30% rate.

This is a rather unusual aircraft design. It was tricky to set up in RF 7.5 to get it to fly well. Flight performance is reasonably good. Landings are fairly decent, with landing speed a little bit on the hot side.

For the pilots out there who like unusual aircraft this is definitely one to look at.
