With the De Havilland DH.100 Vampire, Squadron 12 received its first jet aircraft in 1952 and operated them as a fighter squadron until 1970, when it became Destination Squadron 12, continuing to operate the De Havilland DH.100 Vampires as target aircraft until 1990. Some Vampires received a flashy black and orange paint scheme for this purpose. Some Vampires also received an identical but black and yellow paint scheme.
