Northrop YF-23 PAV-1 (Prototype Air Vehicle).

YF-23 Prototype Air Vehicle No 1 was the first ATF contender (one month ahead of Lockheed) to be rolled out, on the 22nd of June 1990, at Edwards Air Force Flight Test Center. PAV-1 was used to test basic airworthiness, weapons bay acoustics, flight handling with the weapons bay doors open, and sortie turnaround time.

This sleek and stealthy Advanced Tactical Fighter lost out to the Lockheed YF-22 in the UASF's ATF competition. Although this aircraft was faster and stealthier than it's competition it was less agile.

Thanks to Boof69 for the model and colour scheme.

Various refinements for good flight performance in RF 7.5.

Flight controls:

Fly with the channel 5 rate switch in the “High” position. The “Low” position opens the canopy.

Flaperons (for landing) are on Channel 6 (Interlink controller rotary knob).

Airbrakes and Krueger Flaps....10% throttle and below plus full flaps.

Retractable landing gear controlled by Channel 7.

Missile bay doors and missiles – these are on channel 8, but the switch is backwards to what we are used to. Fly with this switch in the position farthest from you. This closes the missile doors. The middle position opens the doors. The position closest to you drops the missiles. I looked into changing the channel 8 switch functions but because of the complexity of the setup thought it best to not change it.

This alternate view jet model is sleek, fast, and exhibits good handling characteristics. Landing is only moderately difficult. Recommended for more experienced pilots.
