The RLU-1 Breezy is a homebuilt aircraft known for its "no cockpit" high wing pusher configuration. It is designed to seat the pilot and passenger with a maximum unobstructed view.
Designed and built by Charles Roloff, Robert Liposky and Carl Unger, the original Breezy used a modified set of Piper PA-12 wings. Wings from the Piper PA-14, Piper PA-18, Piper J-3, Piper J-4, Piper J-5, or Cessna 172 can also be used on the design.
Designer and pilot Carl Unger flew thousands of passengers for free in his Breezy prototype. The aircraft is now part of the EAA AirVenture Museum collection. At the 2014 EAA AirVenture Oshkosh there was a series of special events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the design, including a fly-in of Breezys.
A ride on one can only be described as an experience.
controls
- normal four channel plane control
- Channel 6 (normally flaps) controls a wing mounted camera to look around
- Channel 7 (normally Retracts/Smoke) pulls the water rudders out of the water for take off and landing
- the channel 8 three position switch controls the presets for the pilot camera look around (make sure the flightmodes gadget is on [ZERO key] so you can tell which setting it is on)
- the sliders on the back of the interlink x and dx control the pilots head. how much depends of the channel 8 position you may want to invert the controls depending on your remote and preferance
manual is direct control from the sliders
semi auto
- you have full look side to side control.
- pitch control the camera tries to keep the same angle in relation to the horizon as you pan side to side. you still have some control to look lower of higher
Full auto
- the look side to side is automatic by the roll/bank angle.
- the pitch is the same semi auto but with the auto pan side to side.
