Cannot upgrade from RF 3 to RF 3.5

RealFlight G3 is very, very old software. It was produced 18 years ago for versions of Windows that predate Vista, the version where Microsoft made some dramatic and fairly disruptive (but overall beneficial) changes to many aspects of their operating systems. The relevant changes involve security and protecting certain areas of the computer. RealFlight G4 (or was it 4.5? so long ago... 
) was designed with those changes in mind, but they caused issues for G3. I think that's probably the crux of your problem.
I think it is still possible to use G3/G3.5 on more modern versions of Windows, but it takes some special handling.
Once upon a time we had a page on our website dedicated to demonstrating how to do that. It is no longer there, but I found a version in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Read it carefully and hopefully it will help you.
