Do the Trim Switches on the Spektrum Controller Actually Work?

Hello to all:

I have just joined the forum since I just purchased the sim. I just wanted to ask if the trim switches on the controller actually work? Is this something that the Sim does automatically or is it something the aircraft designer must implement in the model of the aircraft? If the latter is true, is there a way to determine if they work, short of testing them in the Sim?

Thanks in advance.

Generally, yes, the trim switches work on the controller.

The rest depends on which controller you have.

The InterLink DX depends on RealFlight to adjust the trim and make changes. Technically, the trim switches are more button inputs, like the other switches and the button on the controller. RF sees the trim switches move and responds accordingly. You can turn on the Radio Gadget to see a little on-screen representation of the controller where you will see your sticks, switches, and even trim sliders move on the screen as you move the real ones.

For any other controller, the trim is applied by the controller itself and changes the value RealFlight sees from the sticks. That's how trim really works on RC aircraft - the receiver doesn't know anything about trim, and trim is really just a slight adjustment of the stick position. The Radio Gadget in RF will not show the trim switches as moving.

Either way, you should notice the effect on the aircraft. Trim is just like holding the stick steady in an off-center position. As you apply more rudder trim, for example, the plane should start turning in the direction you're adding trim even though you're not moving the stick.
