Excess Smoke from old addon packs

Just getting back into RC, I grabbed RF9.5s on steam.
I installed all the addon packs I have 1 through to 8, how ever some of the aircraft smoke too much.
is there away to edit out smoke from those aircraft ?
 
There are a few options

Turn off the smoke. (Not the best but an option)

Edit each aircraft and save them as a custom variant with reduced smoke

I think the option in setting for smoke quality effects the volume of smoke and exhaust. Which may help.

I am away from my PC currently so I can not send screen shots for how to's or to test the third option.
