FlySky FS-16x setup

Hello, I just bought the Trainer Edition to use in Stream, in March 2025. The invoice and Stream don't say what version of Real Flight (RF).
Right off the bat, the Flysky FS-i6x apparently isn't recognized by RF and the plane flew off into the bushes when starting.
My Google searches came up useless.

Some basic questions to help get started:
1. Is there a special USB driver that needs to be installed for Windows 11?
2. Do we have to setup a special model on the Flysky? If so, how?
3. Anything special to get RF to recognize the Flysky?
4. What are the calibration steps?
5. Any other tips?

As a followup, the transmittor came with a USB cable. I assumed that would be for this purpose, but I'm seeing otherwise in some posts elsewhere. Like maybe I need a "dongle" called SM100. Since I don't live in the USA this is a bit of a pain. Before I go through the hassle, can anyone confirm that Trainer Edition will work with the FS-i6x with this dongle?

RealFlight needs to have the radio appear in Windows as a game controller/joystick. RealFlight doesn't know anything specific about real RC transmitters.

Since you got to the point where you can fly a plane in RF (or try to), that part must have worked through the USB cable. You don't need the wireless USB receiver (often referred to as "dongle").

The next step in that process is to map the channels on your radio to the virtual RealFlight channels. That's done through the Controller Profile. I have a writeup here about how to use RF with your own radio. That will explain how to work the Controller Profile.

Per page 22 of your manual, the usb cord is only for doing firmware updates to the transmitter. It is not a game controller or similar for using the transmitter on a computer.

Only a couple have commented here about the SM100 dongle, usually not being able to get it do control anything more than the 4 main channels. This thread has some discussion and links that may hold out hope and you may find useful: https://forums.realflight.com/index.php?threads/newbie-information-please.61487/#post-376004

All of this is likely to be a struggle to get working, if it works well at all. Hard to accept, but the best choice is to have to spend the money for the official Interlink DX controller sold by Real Flight. Not inexpensive, but less costly than the transmitters out there that can directly support being a USB game controller. And no configuration needed - it just works.

Interesting! Thanks for looking that up, Flapper.

Then there's another device plugged into the computer that looks like a game controller. Otherwise RealFlight would have stopped and complained that there's no controller connected.

@flightengr It did complain about not having a controller. The game started, but as I implied, there didn't seem to be any control over the plane, it took to trying to fly on its own.

@Flapper Sounds like sad news. You would think in this day and age, with other controllers being USB based that the transmitter would work too. I've ordered the dongle from Amazon, we'll see. Thanks for the link.

@others Not being up on all the sims, does anybody have experience with another sim that might be a bit more practical for setup and training flights with Flysky? At best, in the future I might like to learn some basic acrobatics, and crash the sim plane instead of my foamies.
