Graphics Compatible with GeForce4 MX420?

I am using an older Dell XP system with the NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420, with latest driver (2006). DXDIAG indicates it is functioning OK with DirectX9, but BASIC will not run, indicating that the card does not support shading.

Can this card be made to work with BASIC, or am I just out-of-luck?

according to what I found GeForce 4 cards should support pixel shader 1.4 which is the requirement along with 32 mb of dedicated video memory. But those are the bare minimum requirements. You will be much happier going with the best system you can dig up to run RF.

Unfortunately you have the "MX" version, which is not even close to DX9 compliant, probably not even DX8.

Having Directx9 software installed does not automatically give your dinosaur DX9 capabilities. It's a hardware thing, which it lacks.

Time for an upgrade.
