High End Computer for G2

I have been running my G2 on a Dell XP computer with minimum memory, speed, disk size, etc. Finally got hold of a very high end Dell XP system and HOLLY COW. I didn't know what I had been missing all these years. Like writing with a ball point pen instead of a feather quill.

Its nice to fire it up every now and then, if for nothing else but to just see how far we (you) have come.

Now if I could only find the old "add-on" disks (3, I think) for G2. More planes, more fields, more objects - you know the drill.

Hello, im looking to find a computer that i can install XP on and then run rfg2.

Can i install xp on any computer and will it work?

I think many modern components are not supported by XP. You could probably make it work but would involve many workarounds, third party drivers, ETC. Trying to run in a "Virtual Machine Mode" is where I would start if going that direction. But then again you would have to find the XP software also. Maybe check Ebay or local auctions and find a used one with XP aleady installed. A couple colleges around here have auctions once or twice a year and old computers go for $10-$15 dollars.

When I bought my old Dell XP computer it came with the official Microsoft Windows XP installation disk. At one time I tried to use this disk and install XP on a different computer and it would not work. Once I did have to completely reinstall XP on my computer using the disk and it worked. It may have been "keyed" specifically to that computer. It may be that nowdays computers come with the "installation disk" pre installed on them and back then they did not.

My old XP had 512mb memory and ran very slow. Look for something with a couple mb.

On another note. One of the guys in our club is now using my XP/G2 system. He had a stroke and needed a way to relearn RC flying. Its working great and he is doing great.

edit: Some hospitals also auction or sell older computers.
