How do I Download planes from the swap page

New to Realflight, and would like to download some planes from the swap page into Evolution. Greatful if someone could give me step by step instructions as to how to do it.

How do you download planes from the swap pages? Click the download button & save the file - don't try to "run" the file. Just save it in your downloads directory.
Then open RF. In earlier versions, select "simulation" from the menu and select "Import" & realflight archive.
I don't have Evolution, but I understand that it might not be under "Simulation" anymore, but it's similar. You can't double-click the downloaded file like you do with downloaded PDF's, videos, songs, etc. It's actually imported from inside RF. Windows doesn't handle .RFX files automatically like it does for many other file types.

Download the model you like from the swaps, (make a note of where the downloaded file gets saved to), it is essential to download and install the EA (Entire Aircraft) file first, when the EA has imported then you can download and import AV (Aircraft Variant) files and CS (Color Scheme) files, for that same model.
Press the "Esc" button on your keyboard, from the main menu list, select "My Realflight" and then select "Import" and finally select "Realflight Archives" from there you will have to browse to the location of the file you downloaded from the swaps, click on the file and click on the "Open" tab

Thanks for clarifying where it was moved to in Evolution. The procedure is identical, with a slightly different way to access it. Since I don't have Evolution, I couldn't be 100% accurate, and obviously couldn't post a screen shot.

Yeah, the main menu in Evolution is definitely different, lots of name changes, some for the better, some not.! but once you get used to the nomenclature it does not affect the enjoyment of the simulator.

I'm still trying to decide whether to upgrade from RF8 to Evolution. I've owned 2,3,5,7, & 8, but 9 didn't seem like a big enough upgrade from 8. And RF-X was a disaster for me with the GT430 I was running with RF7.5 at that time, & went to RF8 w/ InterLink-X controller instead. With the switch to 64-bit code, how are the frame rates compared to the previous 32-bit versions? I'm running an i7-4790, 32G, GTX-960, & SSD. I haven't really seen anyone commenting about Evolution's performance, just some problems & the menu changes.

Good questions Bill, I have not really compared frame rates, but I have RF8 and RF9.5 and RF Evolution on my PC, so will do a bit of research for you.

I don't see any difference in FPS from 8 to Revolution. It is all pretty much the same. I am averaging over 1000 FPS though. The core of the Sim has not changed since G4 so It runs fine on older machines.

My understanding from the initial posts about Evolution is that the base code is now 64 bit and was previously 32-bit unless this excerpt from the announcement here: https://forums.realflight.com/index.php?threads/announcing-realflight-evolution.56982/ is misleading:
  • 64-bit architecture
If that isn't a change, why is it listed as if it's a new feature in the announcement?
P.S. Thanks for all your help way back when I was attempting to get RF-X to run on my old Xeon with the GT430. And I STILL can't afford a $500+ video card. My Xeon->i7-4790 upgrade with the 960 was cheap since it's "cosmetically challenged" and was essentially un-sellable as a used machine. I couldn't care much less what it looks like as long as it runs good. And it does. But I'd already returned RF-X & gone to RF8 when I got it. I guess I'll never know whether it would have been good enough for RF-X.
P.P.S. Is G4 a typo? My understanding was that the core changed at G5. But I could easily be wrong.

Going 64 bit on the same game engine since G4, is not an improvement per say in fact on that same page there it states there is no performance improvements at this time.

G4 was when Realflight moved to this particular game engine that they are still using today. It was a little different than 3.5 and has been steadily improved upon since then. We got the Interlink Elite with G4, and got away from the Interlink Plus controller of earlier builds. G5 had a few added features and I think we got guns around this time too. I remember a physics change happening somewhere between 5 and 6 and some multiplayer improvements happened around then too.....I am sure it's all documented in these forums.

Hi i´m also new to realfight. I have Realflight evolution and wanted to download a plane from swap pages but if i dowload a EA plane I download a rfx file. In the import section in realflight they say you just can import 3D planes from FBX or Kex files so they dont show me my downloaded plane.
Any solution ?
