Interlink dx issues

Same here new motherboard windows11 rx5700xt video board had to downgrade video drivers and plug into my 2.0 before everything would work

I just discovered that the usb 3.0 ports work fine if they are the hard wired ports on the back of the motherboard. The one's coming from the headers to the front of the case are the problem. It must have something to do with the cables from the headers to the front of my case.

Thanks that's good information to know. And it makes sense since the InterLink requires a lot of current and the wires from the motherboard to the front of the case would go through another set of pins which together would affect the voltage drop for the USB port.

Thank you Marcus. I will try all of your suggestions. I am using a brand new Acer Nitro 5 laptop. It is weird that when I first plug in the controller the computer makes the noise and recognizes it. Then after a period of time the computer will make that same noise and now it says there is an error. I restart realflight and it says to plug in a controller. I will try and expander. I will have to order one or pick one up somewhere. Thank you again. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.
I have the same pc. An acer.with the same problem. Lag. Did you fix yours?

It seems signal quality of USB is too low. I think hardware design update is required to fix this. Too poor cable, wrong pull up/down register on D+/D- line, or so?

Probably, robust USB ports can handle such week signal. Try all ports on your PC. If no working port found, try USB HUBs.

Here is an example capture on USB transfer between PC and InterlinkDX. InterlinkDX sent some data to PC, but it was not recognized by PC's USB controller chip. My PC's USB ports were pretty nervous...

If we use HUB between PC and InterlinkDX, number of error packets become less. But there are still many error packets. Here is an example view of error packets. I captured 1000 packets between HUB and Interlink DX. 391 packets had CRC errors.

This is kind of an old thread on this topic.

I believe Horizon Hobby has a hardware fix in the works, but for right now they've been including a USB hub in the box because of this issue. Placing a USB hub (2.0 or 3.0, and even unpowered does it for most people) between the InterLink DX and the PC makes things work well enough to use the DX.

i enabled port 60/64 emulation in my bios and that solved all my issues without using a third party usb hub. id recommend this as a try, it will not hurt your system in any way whatsoever, worst case it doesn't fix it and and you disable it in the bios .

For years, I used the usb2.0 extension without problem. But today after updates in steam, I get this message .
Anyone see and fix this after updates?

Looks like Windows isn't seeing the InterLink DX for some reason. The Steam update is probably a coincidence. There is no special driver needed for the InterLink DX that would be affected by a Steam or RF update.

Go back to the basics... before trying to open RealFlight, run joy.cpl from Windows and see if the InterLink is recognized there and you can see things move around if you wiggle the sticks.

Multiple Post = Multiple Answer, lol! Pleas avoid doing this mate, thanks.

Mine still works fine with latest (non-beta) SteamVR and Steam Client. I currently use a 2m usb2 ACTIVE extension cable connected to a usb3 port. So, maybe make sure you have and Active usb2 cable. Also, maybe try connecting it to a different usb3 port. If not, maybe contact Steam support. They may ask you to go onto settings and disable all usb connections (which should enable after a restart). I think I needed to do this a long time ago. Also, you can try going into your windows device manager usb port section and right click on all of them, and if there is a power option make sure to disable any power savings.

Sorry, all I can think of. Good luck sorting this out mate and cheers.

I had the same problem ~5 days ago. My solution was to plug InterLink's USB cable into another USB port. I moved from the front of my desktop to the back. Previously, I had no issues with using the InterLink on any USB port on this PC, but now when the InterLink is connected to the front port (where it has been for months), it does not register as a joystick on the PC (which is Windows 11) -- joy.cpl now shows nothing when I connect it in the front. Since it literally does not register as a joystick with the front port, yet it used to, it means that this is a Windows problem and not necessarily a Steam or RealFlight problem. That said, it does seem to be some difference with how the InterLink DX interacts with the latest Windows 11 update. So in that respect it is a problem with the InterLink DX, yet before it was not. SOLUTION: Try another USB port to get over the hurdle of the unreliable InterLink DX driver, which has been previously reported. .... BETTER: Horizon should offer a fix the InterLink DX so that we can avoid these glitches and workarounds.

There is no dedicated driver for any of the Interlinks. It is seen as a standard "HID-compliant game controller", which is an integral part of Windows.

If changing USB ports fixes it, it can be:
1. Bad USB port, wiring, connections to the motherboard.
2. Problems with the motherboard bios.
3. Insufficient power to that USB port.

#3 can be pretty common. Plugging in or turning on another USB device can draw down the power too low. The other device may be getting just enough to still function, but the Interlink isn't. USB 3.0 can supply 900ma, while USB 2.0 is limited to 500ma. Ideally that power is for each port - but if the manufacturer elected to share the power lines between ports of the same type, to save pennies....

A powered hub frequently fixes the issue. Or redistributing the other devices to other USB ports.

I've found that a few USB devices I have don't get along with the USB ports found in newer computers. The InterLink DX is one of them. They often say "USB 3.2 ports". Even if they're not all USB 3.2 ports and you use a USB 3.1 port, whatever is driving the slower ports is also too new and upsets the InterLink DX.

I've been able to get away with an unpowered USB 3.0 hub plugged into a USB 3.1 port on my computer, and that gets the InterLink DX to work.

But since I was still having issues with my Spektrum iX14 and my Spektrum SLT6 via USB, I finally caved and bought some StarTech PCIe cards for USB 2.0 and USB 3.1. (They don't sell a true 3.0 anymore.) InterLink DX works fine plugged directly into the ports on those cards, as do the iX14 and SLT6.

My InterLink DX also hates a USB extension cord of any kind. If I plug it into an extension cord and then into a port that was working, it stops working.
