Is this the right place?

Yes, you are (mostly) in the right place! The "mostly" comes in in that there have only been incremental changes to "how to build" over the decades, so many of the "how-to's" are buried in the categories for earlier versions.
While the overall concepts are roughly the same, there is no way to directly convert from Phoenix to Real Flight. At best if perhaps one has the original Blender files, one might save a bit of time reworking from that point. But some of our real designers here can comment on that.

The thread itself seems to be the work of one primary user over almost a decade (not that others haven't contributed a lot, but he makes a strong effort to keep it organized). Besides his work, and his "maybe someday, if I feel like it" list, the number of other current, active, designers seems about the same as here.
I'd guess that the overall "library" of contributions here are orders of magnitude larger - even if one discounts the bazillion color schemes.
But kudos to him for the MUCH better organization - it can be a real pain here to find the info or models wanted. It's there, just hard to find....
