Problems logging in to this board

Hi,

I don't know why, but I have a lot of trouble logging in to this discussion board. I'll put in my username and password and it won't return any error message indicating that I typed in the info incorrectly, but it just returns indicating I'm not logged in. If I put in my password wrong, it tells me that the log in failed. I got in this time after trying about 15 times. It let me in this time when I clicked on another user's name to send a private message, it asked me for my username/password and then I got in.

I went in to the "having trouble logging in" and had it send me my user information. I'm using the username and password that I was sent.

Ideas?

Dan

danmc77, to make a long story short, a number of other people have experienced similar problems lately, and after some back and forth with Infopop (the providers of this service), we think we have a solution.

Before that, though, try the following just in case:
1. Make sure cookies are enabled in your browser.
2. Make sure Javascript is enabled in your browser.

Both of the above settings are required anyway, but if they don't solve your problem (and based on the symptoms described, there's a good chance they won't), try one of the following:
  • Set your browser's internet security level to "Low".
  • Turn on "Always allow session cookies".
The latter choice is probably more secure.

Also, feel free to experiment with adding http://knifeedge.infopop.net to your list of trusted sites, which may allow you to make these changes for only this site. (I haven't played with this yet so I can't make any specific recommendations yet, sorry.)

We have a webpage in the works to help with difficulties like this, but in the meantime hopefully these steps will solve your problem. Please try them and let me know.

Problems...

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I went into the config for IE on my laptop (the only system I had used to log in) and couldn't really find exactly the settings you were specifying. This system is running XP Pro with IE 6.002.

Now this morning I figured I'd try to log in from home and I was able to get in first try. Here I'm running Win ME with IE rev 5.50.4. So I suppose all the security enhancements in IE are creating problems.

So much for progress.

Dan

OK, that troubleshooting page I referred to above is now up. Go to the login screen. A new option is available now at the top of the screen, after "Can't log in?". Follow the instructions on that page, and your problem should be solved. :)
