Realflight 9.5 Stuck on "Please Calibrate Your Controller"

Hi All,

I am having a frustrating time with RF9.5 where it is stuck on this screen, nothing happens when clicking next. In fact the UI is unresponsive and has to be closed completely. The iDX controller is plugged in and seems OK.

My PC has the following OS

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 24H2
Installed on ‎02/‎01/‎2025
OS build 26100.3775
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.66.0
Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700K 3.60 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card

I really need to get some practice before taking my RC model out in the field :(

thank you.

From Windows/Run, type in "joy.cpl"
From there, you can access a windows test screen to see what Windows sees as working on the controller. You can also do a Windows calibration of the controls (but will still need to do it in RF).
If there is no response from Windows OR it won't calibrate there either, look to your USB connection first. Try a different port. If you have several USB things in use, you may need a powered hub, as the power supplied by the PC to USB may be dropping too low. If you have more than one game controller that shows in joy.cpl, unplug the others, rerun joy, and see if that resolves - they may be conflicting with each other.
When changing controllers or USB, as painful as it is, do a restart after unplugging things, and before plugging in again. Helps Windows flush out any bad settings it may otherwise be wanting to hold on to.
If it all refuses to respond, then likely a call to Horizon support about a bad controller.

@cyberphox, taking a different angle, it seems to me that sometimes when people's graphics cards & drivers were incompatible with DirectX 9 it would manifest like what you describe. That may be the problem here.

In that case, it may be that installing a specific version of AMD's drivers will get you going. If you don't already have the latest, I would try that. If you do, then they may have broken support for DX9 in their driver yet again, in which case you could try going to an earlier version.

Thank you @Flapper and @Ryan Douglas
I have tried to calibrate the joystick using the windows utility and still have issues. I uninstalled and reinstalled RF9.5 but with no luck.

Restarting a few times I have noticed this error message, which looks like this has something to do DirectX driver and possible graphics issues. My card is an AMD one which may not be OK as you suggest. I will try have a look at that. quite frustrating as it should just work
