RF Interlink trim switches not working?

RF Evolution purchased after 20 year break from the hobby, in the hope of regaining stick memory! Every thing appears to have set up properly with the DX Interlink controller and all controls/switches/sticks activated except for the trim switches, which do not appear to be working.
The radio gadget indicates all switch and stick correct movements but no trim movements for Rudder/Elevator/Throttle or Ailerons, the trim switch button can be heard when pressing the trim but there is no indication on the Radio Gadget and no movement on the aircraft flying surfaces.; should there not be a sound/beep when the trim is operated? and should there be a sound indication at their central point? or am I missing something! any help appreciated.

@rc_flyr, welcome back to the hobby! Aside from the issue above, I hope RealFlight is helping you get back in the groove.

You probably know this from your past RC experience, but trim changes are subtle. Unless you are close to or zoomed in on the aircraft in the sim, you may not notice any control surface movement.

Expected behavior:
  • Whether or not the Radio gadget is enabled, you should indeed hear beeps (from your PC speakers, not the InterLink device itself) when giving trim input.
  • Each press of a trim tab should result in a single beep.
  • If you hold a trim input, you should get a bunch of beeps in a row until you release or it reaches the minimum/maximum allowed value.
  • Once a trim is at its min/max value, additional presses in that direction will have no effect, either audibly or on aircraft trim.
  • When a trim returns to center, it plays a different, lower-pitch beep.
  • If the Radio gadget is enabled, centered trims retain their original black appearance. Any trim with a non-centered value is colored red.

Let's start by taking RealFlight itself out of the equation and checking whether the buttons are functioning correctly.
  1. Open the Windows "Game Controllers" Control Panel.
    1. The easiest way is probably to click your Windows Start button and type "joy".
    2. That should bring up Set up USB game controllers in the list of options/results. If it does not, try clearing it and typing "game controller".
    3. Press Enter or click it to open that control panel.
  2. Find the InterLink DX in the list, select it, and click Properties.
  3. Watch the "Buttons" section. Each up or down press of a trim tab acts as its own distinct button press, so with 4 tabs that accounts for 8 total buttons. They cover the numbers 19-26. While a trim input is held, its button number should light up.
  4. Do you see a response for any of the trims? If so, do you see a response for all of them, up and down (8 total), or only for some?
If there is a problem with the above, then it is a controller device issue. No need continuing below. On the other hand, if everything above works as expected, then it must be a software issue. In that case, let's check a few more things:
  • Are other sounds audible in the sim? Do you hear the model's motor when you throttle up?
  • If you mouse over the left edge of your screen such that the Gadget Tabs appear, do you hear a beep when they appear and whenever you mouse over the different icons?
  • Are you using the default "InterLink DX" radio profile? Or have you made changes to the radio profile?

Hopefully we can figure something out based on all the above.
