Super Chipmunk E

A new user (@Atchoum) mentioned he'd like to see a variant of my Super Chipmunk EP that has the cowl and fuselage bottom more rounded. Also a wider gear fairing. So I told him I'd make a copy of my original release and see what I could do with it. For some reason I'm not very good and rounding off the front of a cowl so I don't know if it will turn out good enough to use. But I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Here's a picture of what the original release looks like.

I made a new project for the Super Chipmunk E and copied over the original release files and then renamed them. So now I'm ready to work on the project. Hopefully I can get the cowl and bottom of the fuselage rounded out nicely and get @Atchoum the version he wants. But I'm also starting to map the PT-19 so things might be a bit slow on this project for a while. But I'll try to jump back and forth between the two projects.

@Atchoum I've been working on the PT-19 for a long time so it's hard to break off that project and work on this one. So I'll probably put this project on hold until I finish the PT-19. But if I get a chance to work on it I'll post an update here.

@Atchoum I worked on rounding the fuselage and cowl today. I'll work on it more later to see if I can make it better, but it's definitely more rounded that it was before. I doubt I'll get it as round as the plans you pointed me to but it will be much rounder than the original I did. So take a look at these pictures and let me know if you're interested in one that pretty much looks like this. Like I said I'll tweak it a little more later but it won't be as rounded as the plans you posted a link to.

@Atchoum I worked on rounding out the bottom of the fuselage again tonight. I realigned some of the segments at the bottom of the fuselage and then rounded them out a little more. This is probably the best I can round out the bottom of the fuselage from about the middle of the cowl to the end of the fuselage. But I plan to work on the front of the cowl again and see if I can improve it. So let me know what you think.

@Atchoum I did another pass on rounding the cowl and the bottom of the fuselage this morning. Here's a few pictures of where I'm at. I plan on taking one more crack at it, but that should be the final tweak.

I kinda forgot what you said needed to be improved on the landing gear fairings? Can you go over that again? And if you have any pictures of what you're talking about post them too. And just to be sure, what engine power did you want in this version? (electric, gas)

1) Nice.

2) Gas engine power would be fine, but no big deal.

3) iirc, mainly shorter, thicker legs (part A) and maybe a bigger part B, especially to make the plane lower to the ground:

4) Maybe you could make the cowl more visible, showing more daylight between the cowl and the fuselage (ie a cowl less 'suited' to the fuselage, with a different shape) and adding rivets ?

If I'm interpreting what I see correctly, the original photo is already correct. I see 2 wires connected to the bottom of the aircraft "under" the wing and at least 2 more at the tail... suspending the aircraft which seems to be hanging upside down.

Okay thanks. So I'll make it Gas powered with shorter and thicker legs and I'll see what the wheel pants look like and maybe make them a little larger. As far as the Cowl goes I can add some screws to it but it's part of the fuselage and I don't want to split it off to have light between it and the fuselage (sorry).

You could make a line where the cowl meets the fuse THEN use the shadow effect on the line, in your paint program which would then give it a raised look.

Sorry, I really like the way I did the cowl so I don't want to change it. Mine is a proper fitting RC cowl :)

It's actually raised up quite a bit in the 3D mesh. Sometimes I actually map that raised edge separately so I can paint it a tiny bit darker to make it show up better, but I didn't do that for this plane.

Okay, here's the finished modifications. I do need to remap the parts I resized, but this looks good enough for a test. I'll use the physics from the original plane and update it for the modifications. I started with the electric version because I thought that's what you wanted so I'll need to change the engine. But this is what it will look like. I hope it's what you were looking for.

1 Cowl was rounded
2 Fuselage Bottom was rounded
3 Gear was shortened
4 Wheel Fairing was made wider
5 Wheel Pants was made larger

love the changes technoid

@Atchoum I created a new project directory for the gas version and changed the motor to a gas twin. Then I made a few changes to the physics for the shortened gear. I haven't remapped anything yet so you might see some stretching in the color scheme but they're pretty small and you don't notice them if you don't look for them. I thought I'd upload a beta for you to play with so let me know what you think.

The controls are set for the Interlink Elite.

FLAPS: Channel 6 knob.
SMOKE: Channel 7 switch.
CANOPY: Channel 8 3 position switch backward (towards you).
BRAKES: Activated using UP elevator.

Very good. Congratulations !

It is just an impression. Maybe the cowl could be shorter. However no big deal.
I took approximate measurements, dividing the length of the cowl by that of the fuselage :

1) Ratio : 26,7 %

2) Ratio = 24,4 %

3) Ratio = 21 %
