Yellow Light Bulbs - what are the 'rules'?

What are the 'rules' that determine whether a Yellow Light Bulb (New Posts Since Your Last Visit) should be shown?

I find that if I visit an area saying there are new messages, read them, leave the board/site then go back the yellow bulbs are still there even though no new messages have been posted.

The yellow bulbs also appear if I post a message (surely that's not right?).

Yet if I leave the site for a while (half an hour maybe?) and come back, the yellow bulbs (if any) are 'correct', ie they only appear in areas where there are genuinely new messages that I haven't read.

I use IE5.5 as my browser.

Am I going mad? ;)

I think the key to these working is to login with your name, otherwise they stay on all the time. Thats what happened for me anyway.

Scott, I log on by default whenever I access this discussion area. It's not a major problem, I'm just curious why it works the way it does. :)

Thanks,
Phil
