The original prototype was rather "blah" to look at....all silver, no stripes, no red cowl, no insignia.....

Despite an in-flight engine fire and resultant crash of the original, the Army was so impressed with the high altitude performance of the turbo-superchargers, they ordered 13 more, designated the YP-43A, for additional trials in May of 1939.
