Lockheed Neptune with turbojets, Giant Scale.

The Lockheed Neptune was a maritime patrol and anti submarine warfare aircraft, serving with many airforces.
In the late 1950s it was upgraded by fitting two Westinghouse J34 turbojets to complement the Pratt and Whitney radials.
These early turbojets were not very efficient and blasted out a lot of dirty smoke but did add a useful 6000 lbs of thrust to the Neptune enabling more fuel load to be carried and boosting performance
The original spec’ plane had a span of 100’ and a top speed of 280 mph, in the turbojet version props were uprated to 4 blade, span was increased to 103’ and top speed to 310 mph.

The model is a 27% scale with a top speed of 120 mph rising to 150 mph if the turbo’s are fired up in flight, turbo’s emit flame and smoke, an interesting thing to try is to throttle back the radials to flight idle and fly on turbojet power, the 6000 lb thrust will only barely keep it flying !!

Usual controls with flaps on ch6, retracts ch7, rates ch5 with up for normal, brakes on down elev’, Turbojets on 3 pos’ switch with towards you off, middle on and jets blasting.

Please rate guys.

Many, many thanks to DHK79 for the tremendous original EA
