Well, it would have to be an approximation.......

Something as simple as a box shape or by adding a few more polygons, a shape based on a rotation of the tree about its trunk. For example, you could use a truncated conical shape with, say, 8 facets around and one on top and bottom. You'd only need collision capability on the closest trees or those most vulnerable to the flight path.
