Please help me enjoy my new RF G5!

I do not get smooth graphics and the control is lagging. Also when a model crashes it seems to stop before the crash and then pick up much later on..

Here is my setup:

Does anyone know what my problems may be caused by????

THank you!

Michael

Your graphics card is a bit lacking. Either upgrade it, or lower your graphics settings. Running background programs will also steal CPU cycles.

Try turning down the graphics settings for shadows and particles. They put the biggest load on the graphics processor.

How about actually looking for the culprit? Turn on the display pane (forgot what it is called.... next one under the airport selection with the instrument dial) and see what frames per second number you are getting. Anything lower than the refresh rate of your monitor (usually 60Hz or 60FPS) and the response time in the sim will be less than the best you can achieve.

In my case (Vista but similar CPU), before I upgrraded my video card I was getting about 35FPS in photofield airports (all I use). Since this is about half the refresh rate of my LCD monitor, the slowdown was pretty noticeable. Helis were close to unflyable and airplanes were sluggish and un-realistic. At the suggestion of others here, I examined the response time of the program to the Interlink by looking at the bargraphs in calibrate mode. The response was near instantaneous, thus pointing the finger at the graphics card as the culprit.

After I upgraded my video card (nVidia G210 PCIe..... a very low end card), I now get FPS rates between 80 and 200 in photofield airports depending on situation. Flying is very smooth and the control response is near real world even on small helis.

Running windowed vs. fullscreen will also lower the FPS figure, as will flying in non-photofield airports (since the CPU and GPU have to render every detail).

Having lots of smoke visible and enabling heavy anti-aliasing will both severely lower the FPS figure.

The pause before a crash is (apparently) due to the machine having to pull up the associated sound file. I rarely notice it. Not sure why your case is more severe.

Paul

This is a nuisance at least since G3.5. Happens even with a Quadcore, 6GB of RAM and if RealFlight is installed on a solid state disk. I really doubt that there is any system on this planet that won't show this small pause at the very first crash at least.
One of many, many things that was never fixed over all these years and will most probably never be fixed.
