G 3.5 import issues

I uploaded a couple of Rick Deltens Giant Scale airplanes into G 3.5. No problem. Worked great until I exited 3.5 and re-opened 3.5. I then get the message "The aircraft variant cannot be loaded. It is based on an aircraft you do not have". Well, I had it when I uploaded it the first time but when I go back to 3.5 it says I now don't have it. ????

It sounds like you have a variant that is based upon a plane you subsequently overwrote with a newer version.

When this happens the variant is "orphaned" and G3 recognizes that the plane it is based on is no longer around.

You'll need to remove the variant.
