Sorry for another post concerning G4.5 on laptop. I read many of the threads on this site and others.

If anyone has configuration like mine ( one listed below ) and it works with G4.5, let me know.

I’ve sent same info to RealFlight, but don’t want to wait until next week or longer to get response.

I’d like to purchase G4.5 today or next week if possible and start training.

Want I don’t want is to pay ~$200 only to have very sluggish graphics, etc…

I think everything will be ok except performance may bit sluggish as I don’t have latest graphics cards.

Laptop Specs:
Laptop: HP Pavilion 9500T
CPU: 2.40Ghz Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4GB
O/S: Vista Ultimate SP1 x64
Graphics: GeForce 8600M GS ( 256 dedicated ) + ( 1791 shared ) = 1GB
Display: 17” 1440 x 900 32bit 59Hz
DirectX: 10 installed
Hard Drives: 640GB ( 320 X 2 ) 5400RPM

Vista Rating: 4.8
-----------------
Processor 5.2
Memory 4.8
Graphics 4.9
Gaming 5.3
Primary HDD 5.2

To compare your vista rating to mine above do following:
1) click on start orb in lower left of computer screen ( left on task bar bottom of screen )
2) right click on computer; select properties
3) Window Opens ( pops-up )
4) click on Performance in lower left of that window
5) You may see ratings
6) If your system is unrated, click on “refresh “ or “ update my score “

2nd Question:
I have directx 10 installed. Is there way to bypass installing directx 9? Or will G4.5 recognize I have newer version and skipt that step?

Thanks in advance for your assistance and answers to my questions

Downloaded free G4 demo and it appears to be working...

Hope that means G4.5 will work when it's installed?

Hope information below will be useful to someone. I know it will be to me for future reference to compare to better or lesser graphic cards

G4 Demo:
Graphic Frames/Sec : 170+
with all settings:
Clouds,
Particls,
Pilot Nametags
Scenery Objects
Shadows
Terrain Detail
Trees
Wind Field Indicators

Graphic Frames/Sec : 217+
with all settings:
Clouds,
Pilot Nametags
Wind Field Indicators

So maybe my laptop can support G4.5.

Side note:
Idle CPU running 7%
SIM CPU running 46%

CPU fan really speeds up when running sim, but quickly slows down when done

The DX9 & DX10 installers are quite smart.

When the DX9 installer starts up it sees that you have a newer version installed, and skips past updating any files you may already have.

So there is no problem running the DX9 installer.

You'll notice that it flies through the installation very quickly as nothing is being updated.

Called Techsupport and confirmed they don't accept returns...

So went ahead and purchased G4.5 anyway figured worst comes to worst, i'd be out of $216 only.

Well, everything went smooth except i ran into that d3dx9_36.dll error

Fixed error by re-installing Directx...

Inserted G45 DVD

Ran setup.exe from DVD manually as administrator
( right click on setup.exe on dvd and select run as administrator )

Selected Install

Program doesn't actually re-install G45 as it see's it's already installed

When prompt came up to install Directx9, i accepted and saw d3dx9_36.dll get install

Connected Interlink controller, drivers installed automatically and everythign appears to work fine.

Thanks everyone for all your advice assistance, etc...
Not just from this thread but from any of the numerous threads i visited and/or private messages.

Yeah I should have mentioned that.

G4 looks for a DX9 file and this file may not be available by default in Vista.

Running the DX9 installer replaces the missing file without affecting any of the DX10 files.... and thereby fixes the problem as you discovered.

opjose,

You've been excellent in all your help, assistance and comments...

How do you create those " click " me links which hide all details of larger link
