Get rid of Bar that says press ESC for menu?

I much prefer the old menu bar probably because I am used to navigating it and have activated it using the control panel. But now every time I start real flight there is a big black bar that says press esc fro the menu. I have to hit esc open the menu and press esc again to get rid of it. Is there a way to get rid of the prompt?

never mind typed help in the command line and found the function

showmenunotification

toggles it on and off
