Google sketchup

I doubt that this is the approriate tool to design planes. AFAIK it's meant to quickly draw houses and other architectural shapes. Also the free version only explorts to obscure formats. Not to talk of all that pivor and hierarchy setup which would have to be done with an external tool even if the model could be exported to e.g. 3DS.

I've already tested this 3D - editor. It's not able to generate a useable .3ds file (and after my opinion completely inapplicable to generate aircrafts.)

Sketchup Pro is $495.

I know this is an old thread, but Simlab now has a plug-in that exports .3ds files from the free version of Sketchup. It does cost $95 but there is a free trial version. I've tested it and it does work although you will still need to do pivots and hierarchy in another program.
