Kid and I got a “beginner” plane for christmas.

We also got a complete realflight g2 for christmas because to practice before we destroy our actual planes in 10 seconds.

It was purchased locally, in the box, controller, true disc etc. This is not a fake cooy and it is complete. They guy it was bought from has moved on to quadcopters and was very into rc stuff.

I see that this program requires a windows xp machine. All my machines are windows 10. In the past when ive installed old stuff i have simply ran as administrator, using the windows compatibility mode.

Here is what i have tried and it has not worked.

- read that it might be the drm system called “safedisc2” and that windows doesnt allow it. Googled how to defeat this to install it on a new machine. Created a disc image of the legit disc and it acts the exact same as the legit disc.

I can run setup.exe, it spins a pinwheel for a second and nothing happens.

i can also run cpanel.exe and it opens the graphic interface and it also does nothing when i press install.

In both cases when i go to windows task manager, there is a 32bit installer process open but not doing anything. I close them from task manager.

So……i find it hard to believe that there is no way to install this on windows 10. (and actually it looks like any OS after win xp sp3 had issues).

Is this program/software a boat anchor?

Has anyone made this work?

I was so stoked to spend some time on this with my kid and the bigscreen tv prior to flying!

Ive read a few posts on here where people say they have made it work but havnt found a guide.

Check a few of the posts in this section of the forum. Some have gotten it to work by setting up a virtual machine running Windows XP, although it may also need an update file that may be hard to impossible to find.....

You face an uphill battle, @VikingTrad3r. I personally haven't installed G2 in a decade or longer, and I think I did it on an older computer even then.

It is worth noting that RealFlight G2 came out over 25 years ago. Windows has changed a lot during that time. So has RealFlight, for that matter. I hope you didn't pay very much for it!

Whatever tips you find scattered around these forums are probably the best you're going to do as far as any kind of guide. I do wish you and your daughter luck, both with G2 and your new plane! Whether or not you get G2 running I hope you will consider RealFlight Evolution, which is the current version. Or check out RealFlight Trainer Edition, which is more limited but great for starting out in the hobby and upgradable later if you are interested.

Based on my experience teaching the "Kid" how to fly RC with a G2 is like trying to teach someone how to drive with a 1897 Stanley Steamer. You can do it but there are better ways. The big thing it would teach you is plane orientation and which way to move the sticks. I have the G2 and it is fun to play with, its a nostalgia thing. Wouldn't consider it a boat anchor, just put it on the right ship and it works fine. After years of trying I have never got it to work on any computer newer than the XP. Good news is you can get a XP from ebay for $60-$150. My recomendation, however, is to sell your G2 take that money and buy the Realflight Revolution. Complete G2s in good working order are hard to find and may be worth more than you think.

Even if you never fly the plane the Revolution is one of the best video games out there and can be a hobby all into itself.

One other thing - it is a fantastic graphics learning tool. You can literally create your own planes/airports and interact with them. Its truly amazing how much creative user accessible "stuff" they have put into this software. Flying planes is only the tip of the iceberg, and they even provide experts like Ryan to help you out.
