...on a custom field, that field is stored in a temp location, I'm guessing. Where is that location?

Thanks,

It's not stored anywhere, all fields ( except photofields) are based off of stock environments with stock objects that are placed where the creator placed those objects. All your computer is doing is reading where those objects are from the hosts map and recreating the map. If the creator placed a custom airport object then you will have to have that object yourself for you to be able to see that object. Realflight doesn't transfer any files from pc to pc during multi-player, only placement data.

Yup as Csgill75 says... if you've ever opened an .airport file in a text editor, you'll see that they are nothing but object placement hierarchies.

These files are also rather small and easy to transfer during multiplayer.

Your machine gets a copy of the custom field in memory when playing on-line, but the file is never written out to the hard drive.

There is NO 3D content in those files, just a list of things and their location in the 3D or 2D world.

The actual 3D objects originate from your own system.

yup
That's why you get the error message about missing objects (they are not missing ...you don't have them )

or why see the default smurf cartoon plane for aircraft you don't have installed

or why you can't even join a session that's using a photofield you did not import

or why you may not see a CS that someone is using on a plane you do in fact have ....but did not DL/import the SAME EXACT CS

Its what is or isn't installed on YOUR machine...nothing more
