A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog) Build Thread

This is a project that has had many starts, but seems to evade fruition. I will take my time with this one, but not too long I hope. These are a few shots of the finished studio. 17 separate image planes to include 12 cross sections and a separate side view of the fuse without wing and engine attachments. That should help for sure. Thanks oneder for the excellent 3-views and all the other reference material.

I'll take a Xanax every day I work on it just to get through it. Thanks Brields for the support I think I will need just to get through this project. What a pal.;):p

Maybe I should start taking them again then.:p

I'm sure you remember the effects they had on me.;)

First days progress

Here's what I got so far today. No control surfaces yet or curved wing tips. The canopy isn't even cut free. Long way to go still. Polys 3.380 unoptimized.

Looks nice Boof!

What version you building, electric or turbine? Check the awesome turbine Flyeaglejet ARF A10 1:6.25 scale here http://www.flyeaglejet.com/en/index jet.html

This vid gives me goose bumps every time, the turbofan sound starting at 1:00 is just sweet. If only we could get this into RF.

Here's some cutaways/blueprints that might come in handy.

Paint scheme idea:

Specialty scheme painted on a single Air Force Reserve aircraft from the 45th
FS / 930th OG located at Grissom AFB in Indiana. The stripes commemorated the 50th
anniversary of the "D-Day" invasions of Normandy in World War II.

If you can get a good clear recording of that sound you can have it put in RF. My Rolls Royce RB-211 Engine sound file has a similar noise to it as the RR Turbines have a distinctive sound "growl" to them that isn't heard in other big Turbo fan engines.

I'm all set with reference material, but thanks anyways. This will be a turbofan and Csgill75 is going to put together a custom file for it. I need to do some thinking about what CS will be going on the A-10. I will get back to you on that.

More progress, but not much!

I blended the engine mounts into the engine nacelle and added some detail to the engines themselves. I will hold off on the compressor blades until I know I will have enough polys. I have added the gear pods, but they may need a bit more finessing. Also I cut the tail surfaces. Polys are at 6,768 unoptimized.

Yo've got everything fitting together very well. What's funny is that in it's current state, it looks like your A-10 should have 'Fisher Price' stamped on it. But I know in the end it will look spectacular, as your models only do.

Just to clarify, at this stage of a model, the shapes are going to have to be simple, like a child's toy. If you put too much detail in early on, you'll lose control of your poly count.
