Get down with the daisies at 200+ kph with this fun-to-fly version of strongmankb's original Hawk(Red Arrow)_EA, reconfigured for RFG5.

This variant has a wingspan of 1.5m and weighs 5 kg (wet, 4.5 kg dry) and is powered by a de-rated KJ66 turbine producing 40N static thrust.

The physical 'construction' has been closely mapped to the graphical representation, realistic values have been given to all the various components and the need for CofG 'adjustment' values have been eliminated by appropriate location of components and by adding ballast to the nose of the model.

The KJ66 turbine can be 'wrung-out' to a maximum of 92N static thrust at 128,000 RPM, with a corresponding increased rate of fuel consumpion, of course. The maximum thrust fuel consumption can be calculated by multiplying the maximum thrust in Newtons (N) by 2.57 to yield the fuel consumtion rate in cm^3 / min (cc / min).

You may need to re-trim the model for level flight at full throttle if you alter the max thrust. This is achieved by altering the incidence at root of the tailplane.

The 525cc fuel tank is sufficient for just under 5½ mins of continuous full-throttle flying with the turbine producing 40N and a corresponding maximum thrust fuel consumption rate of 103cc / min.

The fuel tank is located squarely over the neural point of the model so that the trim of the model doesn't change as fuel is consumed.
This also means that the fuel capacity may be changed without having to re-trim the model.

A small amount of elevator 'boost' has been mixed in to the elevator channel, which becomes effective when the landing gear is down, to relieve some of the stick forces when landing.

The handling of the model changes significantly when the gear is down. I prefer to switch to low rates when setting up to land.

The flying controls are basic, no flaps or air brakes. The wheel brakes may be applied by pushing on the stick, i.e. giving 'down' elevator.

Many thanks to strongmanbk for producing the original Hawk(Red Arrow)_EA, and to dprue, whose colour scheme, BAE HAWK_CS, I have used here.

HelimanCP2 has also provided an additional colour scheme, Eflite BAe_CS, and Bonanza has provided a clolour scheme, Ex's Red Arrow fix_CS, which more accurately represents the scheme used by the RAF's Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team. All of these are available on the Swaps.

Have fun.
