Howard 500.

The Howard 500 was an American executive transport aircraft produced by Howard Aero Inc during the early 1960s.

The Howard 500 could accommodate 10 to 14 passengers with a large window for each. Increased fuel capacity over the PV-2 Ventura gave a maximum range with full reserves of 2,600 miles. Maximum cruising speed was 350 mph which was exceptional performance for a piston engined executive aircraft.

The prototype flew in September 1959, and certification was achieved on February 20, 1963. By this time however, the executive market was already dominated by turboprop aircraft. Although its performance was comparable to (or even better than), and its price substantially lower, the Howard 500 could not effectively penetrate the market.

22 Howard 500s were produced initially, with a further eight being converted from earlier PV-2s to virtually the same standard.

Thanks to Doug Kaye “dhk79” for another excellent model.

Various refinements for very good flight performance in RF 7.5.

Flight controls include throttle, rudder, ailerons, elevator, landing flaps, retractable landing gear, and opening side door.

Fly with the channel 5 rate switch in the “High” position.

Channel 6 controls the landing flaps.

Channel 7 operates the retractable landing gear.

Channel 8 controls the fuselage side door. The position closest to you closes the door. The middle position opens the door.

This is a sharp looking very nice flying yesteryear airliner. It has heavier handling typical of big twins. Very good landings with or without use of the landing flaps. Easy to fly.
