Lockheed Martin F-35B Short Takeoff / Vertical Landing Variant.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a single-seat, single-engine, stealth-capable military strike fighter, a multi-role aircraft that can perform close air support, tactical bombing, and air superiority fighter missions. The F-35 is descended from the X-35, the product of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program. The F-35B is the short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the Lightning which employs a Lift Fan positioned just behind the pilot which provides a counter-balancing thrust when the rear 3 Bearing Swivel Nozzle is deflected downward at the tail of the aircraft. Roll Control during slow flight is achieved by diverting pressurized air from the turbine through wing mounted thrust nozzles called Roll Posts.

Thanks to Mark (Inky00) England for a great model. Thanks to all the paint scheme creators as well.

Only a few adjustments were made for this RF 7.5 variant model. Changes include more engine power, springy landing gear, altered angle of incidence of the horizontal stabilizer, and a small change in the ailerons degrees of movement. Other than that it was really good as it was – if its not broken don't “fix” it.

Controls include throttle, rudder, ailerons, elevators, opening canopy, opening fan doors, retractable landing gear, wheel brakes, STOVL.

Fly with the channel 5 rate switch in the “High” position.

The channel 5 “Low” position opens the canopy.

Channel 7 operates the retractable landing gear.

Channel 8 is for the STOVL functions. With the switch positioned closest to you the aircraft takes off and lands conventionally.

The channel 8 switch middle position opens the STOVL doors but the aircraft still flies conventionally.

The channel 8 switch position farthest from you engages the STOVL mode. The rear thrust nozzle will pivot downwards.

Wheel brakes are auto engaged.

This is a rather unique aircraft. It flies quite well conventionally. The STOVL mode is superb. Transitioning between the modes while in flight is very smooth. Easy landings in conventional or STOVL mode. It's a little bit on the touchy side for ground handling, but still quite acceptable. Lots of fun to fly.
