Aurel Vlaicu airplane.

Thanks to parvu for a very nice model. This model variation maintains the original dimensions.

Fly with the channel 5 rate switch in the “High” position.

The idea with this model variation was to improve the flight performance and yet keep the model as close to the original design as possible.

The only aerodynamic changes to modernize the design were to the front mounted elevator and the rear horizontal stabilizer, which were changed from a flat surface to a NACA 12 airfoil.

The balance of the airplane was adjusted by altering the size of the propellers. A differing amount of engine down thrust was also added to the front and rear engines.

The front elevator was given a very slight negative angle of incidence to help cure the model's propensity to climb.

These simple modifications resulted in smooth and easy handling all the way up to the model's 51 + mph top speed.

Because the model is finely balanced, takeoffs require a very gentle hand on the throttle. Engage the engine so that the props just begin to spin. Feed in a tiny amount of power, just enough to get the model rolling nicely. Once rolling, feed in more throttle to lift off.

Landings are quite easy as well.

This is a nice flying model worth looking at.
