Free Upgrade and Discounted Upgrade Information

If you look for Evolution in the Steam Store, it would show you a discounted price for Evolution if that's applicable based on owning RF 9.5S in your account.

Hello

I bought "Realflight 9.5s" on Steam on Oct 3, 2020.

Unfortunately, Steam doesn't offer me a free download of "RealFlight Evolution".

According to the statement on your website:

"If you purchased RealFlight 9.5S at any time, you will receive a free copy of RealFlight Evolution after RF Evolution ships on October 27, 2022! An internet connection is required to download the software from your "GAMES" library via Steam"

but I should be able to download it.

Can you suggest a solution?

If you actually bought RF9.5s from the Steam store then I think you should be eligible for a free copy of RF Evolution. Maybe make sure you're logged in using the same Steam account. Otherwise, I suggest you contact Steam Support. Good luck mate and cheers.

Find RealFlight Evolution in the store, and see if it offers you a discount to buy it for $0.00.

It won't just appear as a download somewhere. You have to "buy" it.

@Pieper66, this can get confusing. The crucial piece of the puzzle is that you bought RealFlight 9.5, not 9.5S, in October of 2020. RealFlight 9.5S was not released until over a year later in December of 2021.

Your 9.5 copy was automatically upgraded to 9.5S once it was released, so looking back it could easily appear like you purchased 9.5S. And you are eligible for a 30% discount on the upgrade to Evolution.

The first post in this thread explains these details.

Actually, through some behind-the-scenes magic we were in fact able to make Evolution simply appear in the Steam library of 9.5S purchasers the day it released!

Thank you for this clarification.

As in my opinion the advantage of "RF Evolution" over
"RF 9.5s" is limited, I will wait and see whether there are further improvements/extensions in the future and will stick with my version until then (after all, it cost a lot of money without comparing it to the competition!)

Evolution won't replace your 9.5S installation. You can have both on your computer. If Evolution is free for you (check in your Steam Library), then you can give it a try.

Evolution ersetzt Ihre 9.5S-Installation nicht. Sie können beide auf Ihrem Computer haben. Wenn Evolution für Sie kostenlos ist (schauen Sie in Ihrer Steam-Bibliothek nach), können Sie es ausp
Unfortunately not, since I bought "9.5" on "Steam" at the time, the update to "9.5s" was installed automatically by "Steam".
I didn't even notice it in terms of gameplay, but only now have I come across the possibly free update.
Unfortunately, I am denied the free update, since I already received a free update from "9.5" to "9.5s", but there is no difference in the content of the program.
I cannot understand something like that, and have also changed my opinion of "HH" HUGELY due to this "user annoyance".
Such business practices should be banned!

Such business practices should be banned!
The terms and conditions were very clearly spelled out in the first post of this thread. You initially said you bought RF9.5s from Steam when you actually bought RF9.5 that was later upgraded for free to RF9.5s. So, not bad business practices, maybe just a bad and whiny customer, lol! In all fairness this could be partially due to a language/translation problem(s).

In any case, it's up to you to decide if using your 30% discount to buy Evolution is worth it to you or not. You could always buy it from Steam and get a refund if you don't like it (return policy = used less than 2 hours and bought less than 14 days ago). I actually did this and ended up returning it for a refund because I didn't see any significant improvements over RF9.5 for the type of sim practice I like to do (Heli's and 3D planes). When RF actually fully upgrades their graphics engine to DX11/12, together with more complex/realistic scenery, I will probably give this a go.

But it is really confusing, because even in the invoice that Steam sent me by email at the time, the new logo of the "RF 9.5s" can be seen. Then you would assume that you have received a program that matches the logo!

This screenshot is from the email received from
Steam on Sat, Oct 3, 2020, 8:22 pm!

If it makes you feel any better, you are not the first person to be confused by that exact thing. The email uses HTML to pull the product image from Steam servers. It retrieves the current version, which of course was updated for 9.5S when that released. So what you see in that email is different than what you would have seen when you first received it.

You'll note that despite the image, the text still gives the product name as "RealFlight 9.5".

Hello gang, I've put Steam and RF back on my laptop, I am thinking about getting Evolution and I'm verry confused as well.
I just went to my Steam account and my options are...

Buy RealFlight Evolution: Upgrade from RealFlight Trainer Edition for $69.99 (I know this one does not apply to me)

Buy RealFlight Evolution: Upgrade from RealFlight 9.5 for $69.99

Buy RealFlight Evolution for $99.99

I started with RF9 I think? I have the disk. Then somehow got upgraded all the way to 9.5S

Will the $69.99 upgrade from RF9.5 work for me?
Or do I purchase the $99.99 version?

Also if I go to Evolution can I drag all the data files to Evolution? I have every AO 1-5 and EP 1-8 and the Mega Pack

Can you drag the data files over? No, unfortunately. For custom aircraft, RealFlight buries some hard-coded file paths in the files. All of your RealFlight 9 stuff is in a folder called "RealFlight 9", but Evolution will use a folder called "RealFlight Evolution". If you just drag them over to the Evo folder, you'll get a bunch of file not found errors, although maybe not if you leave the RealFlight 9 folder alone where it is now and make a copy in RealFlight Evolution. . It's very tedious to edit the files to correct the path if you have a lot of aircraft.

This post gets into more detail about which files are affected.

It may be easier if you can reinstall the custom aircraft from their original RFX files directly into Evolution, but it's also a lot of work if you have a lot of them.

At least you can bring over Radio Profiles with no problem, preserving your controller setup(s).

I am not talking about custom aircraft, I'm talking about the add-on and expansion pack files in the D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RealFlight 9\Data

Would I drag those into the Evolution\Data folder or do I have to reinstall all the CDs all over again?

The expansion packs don't work with RF Evolution, but fortunately almost all of the planes in the expansion packs have been included in RF EVO. A few isn't there from what I understand is licensing problems. From what I understand the Add-ons don't work with EVO either and are not included in it either. So you do loose some planes.

Hmmm I'm not sure I'm seeing the value yet in Evo? So far the only reason I might move to Evolution is for future content? Looks like 9.5s has seen its final days and I have everything it has to offer. To move to Evo and loose things doesn't seem like a wise move?
I may just skip a bunch like I did back in the day. I started with RF3 and skipped everything until RF8 came out, and I hated the controller in 8, so when RF 9 came along I jumped on it.

I do like the fact that it looks like I can purchase content on a per plane basis, instead of buying a whole pack that might have things I'm not interested in, or just buy the quarterly packs.

So which do I need, the $69.99 version, or the $99.99 version, that might be my final deciding factor.

Ok disregard all my other ramblings, I just searched through the forums, and it looks like the $69.99 option does apply to me.
I remember upgrading to 9.5S with the Steam key exchange thingy.
So now It's just a matter if I feel Evo is worth going to or not. Thanks for the pointers Technoid and flightengr.

Two things. Here's a link to a post by @Ryan Douglas where he talks about the Expansion Packs and Add-ons. And yes you can buy a single plane from the new quarterly releases I've done it a few times.

Man that sucks, years or collecting the add-ons and expansion packs will be lost if I go to evolution? I have been with RF since RF 3.
Ok new question, If I get Evolution, I take it, it will not overwrite my current 9.5S? it will be a new stand alone ? if thats the case I can see keeping both so I can keep all my years of content in 9.5S and also start a new journey in Evo?
